well, this is the reason im here so i thought i would share.
basically this car failed its MOT due to welding needing doing on the chassis rails. the bodywork and engine are very good. underneath is a rust pit.
i orginally planned to get someone else in to do the work but thought i would have a crack myself. i get my first welder in two weeks when i drive down to carlisle to collect it.
to do:
i have to remove the power steering unit from the chassis, right at the front, in order to fabricate plating to sort the large holes out. this will then be replaced. this sides towing loop has been removed.
i have a large hole in the chassis, o/s rear. The petrol tank and pump have been removed, and were so badly rusted in they had to be drilled off. this also applies to the associated bashguards for the front and back.
One small hole to weld on the chassis rail under the n/s wheel arch.
A reasonable sized hole to weld just by the o/s rear leafspring front mounting point.
As of yet i dont know how im going to do it, what materials im going to use and whether i need to grind out sections or if i can just put plate over the holes.
any advice appreciated. the sportrak:
