My new safe

Quality engineering from the peak of safe manufacturing. British safes led the World until the 90s. Imagine how much this would have cost when new. Tann were one of the leading companies. Dirt cheap on Ebay and far better than the modern ones.
This beauty weighs around 800kg. Just look at the hinges and thickness of the door.
Nothing worth putting in it mind.
Fragile tape on top made me smile.
Actually came with a key so fully usable.

Reminds me of one I used to store backup tapes in. Computer ones, those big reels. How times have changed, all that data would fit on your phone these days

Sadly the need for these magnificent pieces of engineering has declined so much.
Nobody is paid in cash these days. Even secure data storage is cloud based.
Still a great place to keep my expensive levels and micrometers

i have an old safe got it given with the key its over 100 years old . its got mahogany draws lined with green felt and was used at yarm friarage to hold the silver cuttlery removable safes arent much cop and can be removed . floor safes in concrete are the best. a mate had both his cash in floor safe and burglars broke in to the movable safe all he had in it was sugar and tea bags bet the burglars were well p...ed off

This one has 4 big bolts to set into a concrete floor. Should be pretty unshiftable!

Workshop my dad knew was turned over, safe taken. But the hole in the ground covered by old boxes was still full of cash

A firm I worked for as an apprentice had a safe Stolen it was About 6ft high 5 of us to move it not bolted downived at back of shop in full view of window.
Girls go in to No safe the scroats had moved it down along passage through a garden & over a 6rt brick wall taken it to the Quanock hills and removed back
The manageress said I hope they think it was worth it for a book of stamps, I never put the takings in it

I have thought of an awesome thing to do with the safe when I get tired of it.
Turn it into the ultimate time capsule.
Stick it full of interesting things and some personal info.
Cut the top off an IBC - place the safe inside raised up a bit. Then fill with epoxy resin or concrete. Then bury in a very big hole. I reckon it would last 100,000 years - I will be more immortal than the Pharaohs

I help'd a mate take one out from under the stairs in this old Victorian house....
took 5-6 of us to shift it....(the front garden was 3m higher than the road level)....
anyway, got it across the garden on planks and tipped it into an almost empty skip....
came back the next day it was gone....hahaha.....

Nice, one of the local garages has a few safes, keeps all the tools in them.

A guy I knew in Sheffield had a huge paymasters safe with double doors as a tool cabinet, he needed it where he lived , garage loft space most of us would use as storage was rammed full of razor wire because the scrotes would try and come in through the roof
