My new project,1961 Ford consul lowline

Here is my new project i got today,this will be my first classic car restoration,it's not a pretty sight as it stands but given time i hope it will be transformed from an ugly duckling into a swan lol,a long term project if ever i saw one

Will be good to see the transformation over however long it takes, being old enough to remember driving one of those.

Column change and bench front seat allowed the drivers girlfriends to move in close whilst doing a grand 60mph.. the equivalant to the modern day mobile distraction but more fun

Got your work cut out there then or should that be got your work CUTTING out there then I did see your earler post asking about welding sills on a ford consul and thought you ment like the one I am doing, see pic. I think you will find there are lots of panels avi for the consul you have because the production run was a lot longer than mine, so had propper press forms made. Am I correct in thinking that your consul has a propper chassis as the design dates from the 50's into the 60's rarther than the monocoque (pressed out chassis)? If so will make life easer for you come mot time if the chassis is good. You did mention in your earler post that you joined a formum for consuls. If it was the consul and classic forum then that not the one for your car, and yes that one is a bit dead most of the time. Keep expecting to see some tumble weed roll across the screen Which is why I'm usually on this forum

Yes Mike i have joined the mk11 owners forum & will be joining the club now i have it.To be honest now i have taken the seats out today the floors are much better than i had expected,plenty of rust as the rear screen has been leaking but hardly any that has actually gone through,still plenty of to keep me busy though

Those old fords are the business with the british take on american styling , are replacement panels available for car that old ?

Most of the panels are still available for the mk2,at a price lol

Hi fuff, I have been involved in restoring 3 of these old fords, 2 highline Zodiacs and a MK1 Zodiac (my brother had a fetish for old fords!) Alot of parts are available through the Mk2 owners club, but on some things they are quite expensive.
There used to be a good autojumble around this time of year at Abingdon, the day was mainly dedicated to Mk2 consul/zephyr/zodiac, if that is still going you would be likely to pick up most of your bits there at a quite reasonable price. One point to note though is be careful when removing your chrome trims and door handles, they are made of Zamak alloy and are prone to breaking quite easily (guess how i learned this!)

Not really had time to do a lot to the old girl yet,but this is what i found when i removed the back seat,a wet mushy mess of old carpet & rotten insulation

I'll try and get time over the weekend to go see my brother, I'm sure a couple of his friends still have their MKII's, they used to always be swapping spares etc, might be worth seeing if they have anything left that they wont be using.
I also think my bro kept a few bits and bobs "just in case" he ever got another, so will badger him too. I'm sure I saw some hub cap medallions in his shed last time I were there, as far as I know though, the medallions were only used on the Zodiacs, just depends what your view is on restoration and whether you want to keep it original spec or "period style" spec

Emm , have you seen the price of go-juice recently ? A one litre fiesta engine might be a better choice
