My lads recent VW T4 project purchase

As per the title, my lad has been lusting after a T4 for ages but couldn’t afford to buy anything worth buying until he stumbled across a ‘99 mot failure not half a mile from home and for just £500.

Looked reasonable and for the money it was a no-brainer whatever state it’s in,

It’s your typical bodged van, including buying a rear arch repair panel, then sticking it over the top of the panel with caulk and riveting it!
Due to my lads current inability to weld Dads been called into service once again, (he WILL be learning on this one after the 50 plus hours I put into his Seat Alhambra!)

I decided whilst he was ripping out the rear boarding that I’d drill out the rivets and get the arch off to see what’s underneath. Not pretty!

I thought I’d cut up the arch repair to facilitate a proper fix, so once removed, it was obvious that the end of the sill was bad as was the inner sill and lower arch return, I should have taken more pics but was too busy. I’m 4 hours into this just now. It’s not a bad repair if I’m honest. Nothing a skim of body gloop won’t sort.

plenty of cheapish after market panels n parts.....
this is my 99'er.....1'9TD.....450,000klms.....no rot and wont sell.....cav wax from new....orig paint.....from Holland....full 5 seater....
front seats from a Reno Laguna......swivels from a Toyota Hi Ace camper....
now used to the colour......lol....

Strange this as Winchgirl is currently being recovered by the AA for its second charge fault, just so you know the charging system is linked to oil pressure???
It uses different sensors and it reads one at certain RPM then the other at another RPM.
So thats tomorrows job, luckily I have a spare but smaller alternator still in the garage

It's a 2.5 ACV it managed 230,000 miles but failed due to a DMF fail so now it's had a new everything fitted so should be good for another 20 years

I've had a couple of T4's and they are a real pleasure to drive. Very well made too. I found a tree growing out of my front wing but you can literally unbolt it and incredibly, itjust needed dirt (and tree) removing. No rust at all.

Same can't be said for the undercarriage on my old bus. It languished in an Irish peat bog until some idiot bought it sight unseen off eBay. Soon became apparent it had a very dodgy MOT and once my own favourite MOT testing station got busted, it now languishes outside my garages...
