My house was marked

You know those dog napping rumours that they mark your house one day and take your dog the next? Well my mates text me saying my house had been "chalked", I didn't see the mark as I got home after dark but they sent me a photo of it. One of them has a dog and his house had the same mark. Apparently three dogs were taken in great cornard last night which is about 4 miles away. My initial reaction was "pah, bull xxxx" but now I'm really worried. I can't sleep, I sit up every time I hear a car outside. I like to think he'll bark if anyone comes in so I can wake up go down there with a hammer. What should I do guys, I'm worried sick?

I can't seem to upload pictures from my phone but it's a vertical white line on a Brick, next to my front door.

Make sure you have a good plausible weapon and a phone!
Hope they don't turn up mate that is harsh! I'd be sat ready with my rifle if I thought that was going down!

Go out when it's quiet, about now, and put vertical white lines on bricks on several places in the street and streets around.

Do you think they might break into the place to steal the dog? In that case a whole other set of precautions comes to mind.

Anyway, are you serious about this white line business? If there's anything to this I'm off to draw a white line on my next door neighbour's wall right away. Could you give us a picture so I can get it right?

I hope so but I think they aren't, they sounded serious and they're all crap liars, plus, it happened in Edwardstone a few miles away and apparently in " the nard " last night.

There's a big difference between taking a dog out of a yard and breaking into a house for one. If you're worried, let him sleep in your bedroom.

All it is, I think it's an urban leg end too but I'm still worried. I'll have a look around tomorrow and see if any more houses have it.

I've just nipped out and marked the neighbour's place, now I'm hoping, but it seems a bit like believing in Santa.

I'm sure you'll forgive me for pointing out that your interests in this and mine don't coincide.

Meanwhile, rub it off and chalk a few other houses roundabout.

No doubt we'll have the same people come on again saying that they "heard that someone's neighbour had..." but that's what an urban myth is. A call to your local police station should allay your fears as to whether they believe this is a situation you need to be concerned about in your area which, let's be honest, is all you need to be thinking about.

I get these near identical marks on my workshop on a regular basis, Its a sign from above, as in from the pigeons that sit on the lamp post outside the door,
Looking at the photo you can even see the damp patch on the mortar in the joint, I can seen the police really being impressed at a report of bird cr@p on the wall.

That looks like bird poop to me as well Scrub it off if you are that worried.

My wife got an identical mark on her head a few weeks ago when in town, nobody pinched her though

Or lick some chalk, then some bird poop, then lick the mark and see which one it tasks like

It's not bird poo, it was really hard to get off and needed wire brushing. I'll have a look round the village later to see if anyone else had it.

mark seems on the small side to be easily seen, specially at night & from a short distance, as you said you never noticed and you live their, i hope its just a prank from your mates,

on a slightly different note thou, my misses got marked on the the back of a coat she was wearing when she was drawing some money out, coat was marked in the bank, she was stopped just before going out of the bank by a member of staff, the police were called, this mark was made with chalk,

That's a thought. If I was going to mastermind a crack gang of dog thieves in 2015, I wouldn't be going up people's drives (where I might get recorded on CCTV) and stick a tiny chalk mark on the house.
I'd jot down the numbers on my throwaway pay-as-you-go mobile and then send a text to my minions later on in the day "A Street, #23, 37 & 44. B Street, #19".

Chalk seems rather error-prone, especially if the bad guys mistake genuine bird poo for a chalk mark and break into the wrong house!

Unlikely they would break into your house to steal a dog, especially as the punishment for domestic burglary is a lot more severe than theft.
