4mm the only bit of metal I could get from scrapyard without getting a massive bit. I wasn't thinking they were anywhere near ok. Had to wait for a break in the weather.I think I speak for all seeing this, that there is certainly room for improvement.
What thickness of plate is that.
It was the only bit of metal I could get from scrapyard, so on look out for other bits. The secret is to enjoy it , after that its only practice and patience ,,
dont break your heart running lines , start sticking things together , its way more fun.
In normal times id say find a local engineering company , take a bag of buns or an apple pie , and buy the off cuts from behind the guillotine for humble money you get a lot of bits to play with ... these days , well its worthy of a thought. It was the only bit of metal I could get from scrapyard, so on look out for other bits.
Not a problem. We all have to start somewhere and I'm glad I'm starting now. Wish I started earlier been putting it off for far too long.I just re-read my post, I apologise if I came across rude. I just wanted to show we’re all pretty poor when we start. There’s some fine folks with sage advice here and I’m sure we’ll both get better with practice.
I'm near Penzance, so almost bottom of mainland UK. Open for help anyway if there are any locals. I do have a guy who said he will try teach me basics but as of yet we haven't arranged a time. You give your location as South West, it may be worth giving your actual location & seeing if there is someone local that can give you a few pointers. This would save you a lot of frustration while trying to learn, I know this could be difficult at the moment though.
