Some of you may remember my Avanti bulk heating gas bottle drama when I moved into my new bungalow in March, out of certification, Avanti refusing to fill it etc. I had a couple of 47 kg Calor gas bottles and a changeover installed, so we wouldn’t freeze to death when it ran out.
Anyway, the last dregs of gas in the bulk tank actually lasted 9 months and I turned on the Calor gas system 3 weeks ago. Yesterday I noticed the red flag showing, the bottles had swapped over.
A little panic, wondering where, and if, I could a refill on Xmas eve. No problem, a few miles away, in some saddlery shop....
..... for £72
So, thoughts are heading for ways to use less gas. I’ve turned the CH down 1/2 a degree, which might help a touch. Also toying with the idea of a couple of oil filled electric radiators just ticking over in the background. Which ones are most efficient, any suggestions?
I hear the powers that be are outlawing carbon fuel fired heating systems in new builds the near future, but the alternatives are all electric based and I’d imagine very spendy too.
The only practical gas alternative to small bottles is a bulk tank buried in the front garden, but I believe that’s about £3k to install.
Help.
