My fault but thief should of done his homework

I have a flat bed transit so keep all my tools in a van vault, usually locked. I have been racking my brains as to why I wouldn't of locked it last night but some scrote decided to liberate me of my cordless drill! I noticed when I opened the curtains and saw the lip propped up slightly. I've just checked to see if anything else had gone but all they took was the drill.

Obviously I'm p****d off but it was the cheapest makita cordless which was on it's way out anyway. But what cheers me up slightly is the fact they moved my facom socket set, my brand new Bosch 4" and 9" grinder and speedglas mask! The mask is an old one but total value of drills worth, probably £30 tops as it was old, and the total value of the gear they moved out if the way, probably £350!!

Along with the other tools they left I don't feel so annoyed that something has gone but the fact someone has been in my stuff gets me going!!

After leaving what I thought was "stuff" I wouldn't miss if my LR was nicked. The day came when it wasn't there, and I sure did miss that "stuff". So now I don't leave squat in my van, they can take that, at least I wouldn't have oil dripping on my new drive.

Most works van insurance will not cover for tools left in the van overnight unless the van is locked in a compound. Check your policy.

My policy covers me for £5000's worth of tools as long as their in a LOCKED van vault!!! Doh!!!

I am counting my blessings as it could if cost me lot more not only in tools but work I would of had to cancel today tomorrow and Saturday until they were replaced. It was only this week too that I decided to measure up for a full width ally chequer plate van vault I want to build with my new cebora pulse welder. This has just put my plans into motion now

And put a lock on it that cannot be left unlocked without the key left in it.

Then you can't leave it unlocked.

Might be slightly more inconvenient, but a lot less inconvenient than having to replace a box of tools - or missing a job

They say it happens in threes so hopefully that's my lot. It was only last month when within a week my new mig pulse broke and the clutch went in my van needing a solid mass conversion!!

i did i stint in insurance replacements
most thefts that happened about 50% also had another theft about six/eight weeks after the first one, scrotes knowing that you will replace the stolen stuff with nice new shiny stuff so they have another go

with your van vault if you think you did lock it change the lock they might have found a key that fits

They couldn't wait in my case, had a house break in, they came back 10 days later to remove what they couldn't take the first time
