Hi,
Today I went out to practice some welding and my new (well, a few months old but not used much) auto helmet seems to have packed up!
At first I noticed that sometimes it wouldn't activate when I struck an arc, I turned the sensitivity up and it worked a few times, then I noticed it kept remaining dark after stopping welding, and now it just won't work at all!
It's a SIF Lite if that makes any difference.
It's been kept in a light-ish (daylight only) room since I got it so surely the battery can't be knackered?
I've left it to charge up directly under a light bulb for now, I'll see if it starts working again but surely this shouldn't happen? I actually thought they were powered by the welding arc itself anyway?
Is it just knackered and needs taking back to the shop?
Quite annoyed, I know it was only cheap but it's been a great helmet on the few occasions I've used it, so I'm a bit peed off that it's packed up.
Also, stupidly after it stopped darkening I wanted to finish what I was doing so I carried on welding for a bit, will I have given myself arc eye? I'm sure I've heard somewhere that the glass will still protect you whether dark or not, is this true or have I made a major fopar?
Cheers.
