I'm guessing the spool heater is more about helping minimise hydrogen porosity than anything else... keep the wire warm and keep moisture/humidity problems at bay. Where practical i 'third' the run on/run off tabs tip

That link is the only reference I can find on t'internet regarding spool heaters. It seems to be a new idea/product, a gimmick?

I am now liking the run on/off tabs idea, so will put it into practice at some point. Cheers guys for the heads up on that one.
