Mustn’t crumble?

Looking for a bit of advice please from you clever boys. The pictures are of the extension concrete joists over the car port next to the the garage. The brick supporting the entire wall of the extension has started to crumble.

I’ve stuck a couple of Acrows up but contemplating the best way to tackle it.

Any ideas from the sages would be most welcome.

whats under the acrows is my first thought .

Chop it out while the acros are in there and put an engineering brick in it's place. You could really do with bigger piers that cover the width of the beam.

Thanks for the replies Passed building regs apparently. I didn’t like it.. is a pad stone different to an engineering brick? What would you use as a wedge?

pad stone is a crushed concrete block that we use for girders and also use for concrete lintels its design is to spread the weight of whats sitting on it

other alterantive is driveway blocks in your case would be ample enough

If theres room why not bung two steel props in there and / or a concrete head too ,,, if the concrete floor is decent of course.

Padstone is a concrete pad usually 150 or so thick depending on application.

For your current issue I would use a piece of concrete lintel in place if the brick. Must have a full bed of mortar under it

Once it’s set( overnight) hammer pieces of slate in between the padstone and beams .. they must be tight enough for the beam not to move when you remove the acrows. Then attempt to fully fill the joint with more mortar … this is important and a right pita … takes time but suck it up and you only do it once

Ah, ok. Are driveway blocks strong enough? I have access to those.

ive had a car and a 3.5 and 7.5 ton parked on it also had skip wagon pushing down on the brick when lifting there more than strong enough to be used

that was lifting a full large skip of weight where the packers of them they need a good strong wagon to lift the skips on there vehicle never damaged any of the pavers we have
