You should've used 'effect', because something acting on something else has an effect.
You can effect a change - make the change happen.
You can affect a change - alter the change.
You can affect the effect too, but effecting the affect is a difficult thing to do effectively.
I hope I've cleared that up with due effectiveness and managed to affect your way of thinking

That's a very good point, IMHO the Muppets were brilliant, great characters, very funny and hugely entertaining. So why, If the Muppets were so great do we call idiots "Muppets" ? Surely it's an insult to the memory of the Muppets ?
Please note, I have used the past tense since most of the people behind (or should that be under ?) the Muppets have passed on.

Very true I'm the same will attempt most repairs etc on my own cars but rarely on others cars for the same reason

Even after I told her it's going to take and cost twice as much long with me doing it rather than a bricky After a while she got someone else to do it and what I'd taken 3days he did in a day but she wouldn't listen lol
I agree with anyone having a go or attempting a job, great, but the fella above made out he had done it all and knew exactly what he was about, annoying.

Going back to the start post, I hope you took his adjustable off him and cut the bugger up for scrap? The problem with them is they're fine for things like heavy plant maintenance as most of the bolts & screws are easy to get at, not to tight and can be drilled/cut out/off quite easily if needs be, and in the case of one of my former employers they used to buy Bahco 'jussies which are/were regarded as the best. Working on vehicles however (as with most other things to be honest), one needs half-decent quality kit unless one wants to end up with a collection of rounded-off nut/bolt heads, sore/skinned knuckles and a REALLY BAD MOOD! 
I was once told by an ex-miner that shifters ended up being banned underground as guys with false teeth who needed a new set would take them out, smite them sharply with their 12" shifter then claim for a new set when back on the surface, claiming they'd slipped off the face-level nut/bolt they'd been undoing and belted themselves in the chops.

The other side of the coin
Some time back, a girl I knew was muttering that her MG Midget's clutch was slipping and she would have a go on Saturday. Thinking I could be a knight in shiney armour here, I pitched up on the day, only to find she had the engine dangling on a hoist from a wooden tripod. Could I help with centering the clutch plate? as she couldn't figure out how to do it.....So we did that and I helped a bit more and left some tools to make the rest easier.
She was no strapping amazon and her day job was playing a cello, but she could read Haines.

Bit too big an instrument. Couldn't get it in the Mini, while it just stuck out of the Midget.

There are some good ole gals about, I was welding up some pens for a lurcher rescue centre, I had no choice but to use fluxcore, so the gals set to behind me to clean up the welds with 115s and 125s, then paint, then hold up the mesh whilst I tacked it. They pulled me back to check if some welds were ok (give a wumman a smidgin of knowledge and she is exprert) I mean, moi, dodgy welds?.
Anyway, these were all fit young gels (which had nothing to do with it) and some bloke turned up to tell em the rescue centre was not welcome.
Big mistake.
