Multi Process Machines

Hi,
New to welding but old enough to know to buy the highest quality tools I can afford.
Thus looking at a machine and then saving up to pay for it...(within reason)

But what are the pros and cons of the multi process machines?
Are they suitable for learning with?

Most tasks will be domestic and automotive with occasional forrays into mini diggers.

there appears to some growing interest in these machines if you have a search through the buying a welder section i am sure i have seen some recent discussions regarding them.
