mt3 tooling

Hi. Finally got my Pallas miller in position and running.

Apart from a mixture of cutters plus vices what basic tooling should I buy.

Not much mt3 tooling comes up on ebay and all the mt3 er32 collets appear chinese so should I just buy direct?

I have an imported er32 collet system vertex i think or soba, forget which, quality isnt too bad and it works.

Make sure you use a draw bar with MT tooling.nothing worse than spending time making something real nice then to habe to tool drop 5 minutes from the end.

Dont ask me how I know!

I wouldn't touch ER with a barge pole having had to use three different brands over the years. Two chines and Wabeco all cutters dropped no matter how tight.

Much better off with the MT3 finger collets, more grab, minimal loss of height, less strain on spindle bearings and 8 times quicker to change cutters.

Ebays inundated with MT stuff, just choose the right thread for drawbar used to MT 1 -3 tanged drills that will push straight in.

Can you explain what you mean a little more.... makes no sense to me at all. Are you saying the Mt part of the Er was no good or are you saying ER collet system is no good?

Know where your going with this Scot, difference being your running much faster spindle speeds with more torque on beefier machines with multiple passes than most users outside of diy.
However in that instance theres much better options leading to quicker setup time and on going cutter replacement without the need to re zero each time.
3 ER type collets had to use, cutters dropped with mediocre cuts put on, even worse patterning thin stuff out.

I have just been down this road and bought an eBay ER32 Collet chuck and collets as I've scored a load of free cutters - I just need to get the mill wired up now!

I'm hoping that your ER collets were a bad batch!!
