lay it on thick I just got fobbed off yesterday with being sent for physio
went back to docs today and told him they were crap he said take the physio go though the motions then get an injection and take it from there 
tell em your on painkillers and cant work don't go in looking healthy

North end of the country about 350. Down south 550.

You will need to be referred by your existing gp.
Just having the scan is not going to get you the treatment any faster though!

has the doctor recommended you go for one and did you ask him to refer you

All i know form personal experience is its not just the scan its getting the best man for the job to interpret them.
And not all xrays and scans are the same in definition and quality, its all about positioning.
My London consultant can tell me more from a xray than the local man could with a scan.

My wife has been waiting for 4 months now for an NHS scan so we paid for a private one, head and neck with consultation was £1000.
What was really annoying was it was done in an NHS hospital at 9am in the morning, explain that?

Ive been paying for Physio on my shoulder....i think its a frozen shoulder.....its £36 for a half hour session of this pulsed short wave treatment...had 4 so far. I think its improving but its no miracle. The doc gave me a sheet showing various contortions....the Physio says they will make it worse.lay it on thick I just got fobbed off yesterday with being sent for physio

Dont get me started.
The machines are so expensive and waiting list are so long they should be run 24 x 7. I know if i had the option for a scan in 12 weeks time or a 3 in the morning next week i would be there whatever time it was.

Depends on the workload and staffing I think,
Bristol run 2 of them, 24/7 apart from maintenance breaks.
A lot of the time part of the funding for the machines/Running is from private sources, some of them pay a premium so they get to chose what time slots they can use them etc.
Actually subsidises the cost for the nhs.
To run an mri independently gets a lot more expensive.
A horses foot is £1200 to scan. Not all the cost of running the machine obviously but 2 feet are £1800 (southern prices)

There should be some sort of vetting system, people that have paid taxes all their life take priority over those that haven't.
Minimum of 10 years working and paying tax to qualify.
Simples!
Obviously if you're only 18 you can't have paid in for long but I'm sure there's some clever people in government to work this stuff out...
We just need to weed out the complete spongers and chancers.
To the OP can you go to the docs pleading (I know you shouldn't have to) that you can't work and have no money coming in to pay for food/mortgage etc?
I did this once and think it helped get me sorted a bit quicker.

Thats a difficult one. Im on the trolley and the guy next to me is rolling about in agony....I qualify to go first....I wouldnt be comfortable leaving him in pain whilst I had my treatment.
I agree that we do have "medical scroungers" but its difficult to treat them differently to us "fully paid up members"
I live in an area where there are lots of scroungers (both imported and home grown) and it is annoying to see them stood outside A&E smoking and spitting but I cant think of a way to stop it.....

But I do agree its tricky to sort the good from the undeserving.
youve got to be very callous to apply it though on a slightly different tack....having recently been in hospital I realised some of the money that is wasted trying to avoid being sued. There was an old guy in the next bed who was showing off but obviously senile. It took 7 of them to persuade him to move to another ward. Once gone I had a woman come and question me about it and offer me counselling...I honestly thought she was messing about but she wasnt.In a lucid moment he asked me for directions to the toilet...I know I shouldnt have but I mis-directed him so I could get a few moments peace.....he was a "singer" and he was annoying.
