MP3 music system?

I miss playing decent music at my workshop so want to put in a music system. Would like a dedicated MP3 system, whether a portable MP3 player and then a speaker system or a fixed player and speakers I am undecided. I don't want to use my phone and want something I can leave there and easy to use. Any tech folk out there with good recommendations?

just buy an mp3 deck system and then your mp3 player

or you could use a car radio that does the same thing there cheap as chips nowadays

i have a few choices with mp3 player portable system or an ipod which needs a docking station if i choose that way

i also have a good poineer stereo that ive put away that can be used in the workshop nice and loud and bassy already had ipod through it already

I have a 20gb Sony mp3 player and some old pc speakers.
The speakers are just plugged into the microphone output.
The speakers have been on all the time as has the mp3 player charger, I just turn the mp3 player
on and off.
It's been in the garage since 2003 and is still going strong, I used to get through radios one a year or so.

Not that long ago (it seems!) I had a whole website dedicated to serving MP3 files. In these days I talked about open source and purchased MP3 rippers, different types of hosts for the files (mostly based on Linux) and dedicated players, primarily Netgear MP101s (of which I had around half a dozen).

Fun though it was, I must admit that a Spotify account (free with ads, or £10 a month) or Amazon Prime (£80 a year, soon to go up) plus an Amazon Echo (£89) is far more convenient and, at the price of 7 or 8 CDs per year, is pretty cost effective.

If you don't have an Amazon Prime account then I think the £89 on an Amazon Echo and trying the free spotify with ads for £0 per month is a good way to try it out. I know that in the workshop I'm pretty zoned out anyway so probably wouldn't notice the adverts.

Possibly - if you're all sorted in the house then it might be cheaper / easier to look at getting internet to the workshop, rather than come up with a whole different solution.

should do what i do and buy your cds from a charity shop, im getting to the age all my kind of music is easily found for 50p a disk

Thanks. Talking to my wife and she made the good point of internet at the workshop is a bad idea as I will get less done than I do now. I have a good cd collection so just want to be able to easily music from my collection.

Dewalt makita etc site radio and plug a mp3 player in.
Or go to tesco and buy a bluetooth/usb cd tuner and plug a big usb stick in.
This one works well.

I extended internet down to the man cave it’s great but can be distracting. Got my old AV amp, speakers, Apple TV and a TV. Handy for watching YouTube videos about stuff your working on or How to videos whilst your doing it.

I then stream from Apple Music via the Apple TV which works for me.

I ditched the hi-fi in the workshop, (took up too much space), and just use a bluetooth speaker now. All my music is stored on my phone, & I play it from that.

I use youtube. Either a playlist I have created or find an album and set it going. Then a 3.5 mm stereo jack to jack lead fro my phone in to my Makita radio.
Obviously internet is required.

Bluetooth boombox from Lidl + phone + SoundCloud.

The Bluetooth boombox was far better than I was expecting. Battery lasts probably 4-5hrs, it's pretty robust, you can sling it outside of you want. Has an aux in as well if preferred

I wanted radio and a means of playing music/audio books from my phone and started looking for a DAB radio with bluetooth. But when I found I could pick up WiFi and my Sonos network in the garage it was a wall mounted Play 1 for me.

Why not use an old Windows pc,load the hard drive with mp3s,and hook it up to a hi-fi amp and speakers?

ive always used winamp both for playing and ripping music on pc

winamp was free at one time but still ripped music at a slower rate

nowadays if i want something if i can play it, i can get it that way instead

I usually have my own playlist as i dont think i really like any one albums all music on it

I bought a blue tooth/usb speaker from the range for £15
16gb flash drive was a tenner.
Charges off the phone charger, and works as a hands free kit.
Not so useful in car, because it has disco lights - I need to open it up and cut the leds

What's your objection to using your phone?

I use Spotify on my phone paired to a UE roll 2, it's impact and water proof (And therefore dust proof) so lends itself quite well to being used in a workshop.
