Expensive shielding gas is a problem in Finland. Monopoly for a long time, then a duopoly, and a small market. Now there seems to be some smaller firms getting into the market and a new store in my nearby city sold shielding gas cheaply. It ticks all my boxes, it's a "pawn system" where I pay a higher price for the first bottle (229€). Then I can exchange it for full and serviced bottles for a smaller price (59€) thereafter. Versus really owning a bottle which can take a while to refill and ever 10 years you gotta spend money to certify it, or throw it away.
Only downside is the gas mix is 75/25 ! I thought that was "obsolete" so to speak, I don't remember having heard of it here since the late 90s or early 2000s when 82/18 took over. It has the advantage of allowing a spray arc mainly. But I don't think I've ever use spray arc welding so I am seriously considering moving to 75/25.
Anyone else use 75/25, how does it compare to 82/18? I know it's the most common mix in america so it probably works for most things.
Picture says:
Co2 7,5kg 199€ / Swap 35€
Mixgas 10l @ 200 bar 229€ / Swap 59€
Argon 10l @ 200 bar 249€ / Swap 89€
I currently have a 8 liter polish bottle (200b) with 82/18, refilling that is not possible, just buy new and discard, 100 euros shipped. So in the long run that is more expensive, but it was cheap to get started. Thinking maybe keep the polish bottle but set it aside and then I'll have some 82/18 incase I find an application for spray arc.
