Moving stuff of odd large size

Im looking to have something brought from Birmingham to Northumberland…..a double pallet space but not a lot of weight 50kg maybe.

@Mikey D used them to collect a Kubota tractor from me down in West Wales to him up Shropshire direction.

I didn't really have any complaints at this end. A guy in a Disco turned up with a big flat bed and plenty of stuff to strap it down.

I’ve used them to move everything from an engine crane to a car without issue. When I say “them” I mean the couriers that bid for the work obviously.

I had a "courier" pick up a marine engine from me about 5 years ago, buyer found him on shiply. Bloke & his mate in an iveco van. He asked me if i knew a mechanic as his brakes had just gone. "This just fell out as i came round the corner", He handed me a worn out brake pad! no compound, literally half the steel backing worn away, I couldnt get hold of my mechanic so they loaded the marine engine up & off they went all the way back to Yorkshire with just the handbrake! I often wondered if they got back without an accident.

I’ve used Shipley to move one of my Range Rovers, guy was good, professional. I’d use him again but didn’t like the charge Shipley added for their computer putting us in touch with each other it was rather excessive.


Have you tried @fizzy on here he’s a helpful guy with a good reputation?

Its a double pallet pace if stood up right diagonally, so would requires strong frame building….hence why Im looking at other options!

Yes I've used Shiply several times, all with good results. But remember that they are a bit like a middle man and you need to check out your chosen carrier and their feedback yourself.

I've had a pile of 8mm sheet plates, a drum of SWA cable, two huge heat exchangers, varius bts of JCBs shifted with no issues

Indeed. Not everything can go by pallet sadly.
I remember one lovely old bloke approached us after being ripped off twice by people on Shipley so you do need to be careful . Shipping a ride on mower to Holland for his daughter. We sorted it for him.
He used for a few years after that. He was in his 80s. Dutch with a strong Scottish accent. Used to fly DC3s in the Belgian Congo so apologised for being partially deaf and shouting all the time

Have used them a couple of times with no issues. They do not do packing though.

If you do try them, dont jump on the first quote. If you leave it a few days the price will come down.

Could try Interparcel or Parcel2Go. I think they do things that big.

Only on pallets and not really suitable for a pallet.

Had a couple of decent experiences with them, with pallet-sized loads, but unpalleted, iyswim.
Trick is to post your want ad and wait out past the immediate greedy sods who will quote extortionate figures.
Sooner or later someone will pop up with a reasonable price.

Awkward size/shape & quite large volume & 50kg? Sounds like about the worst combo for shipping that weight affordably, with most carriers geared-up to shift standard pallets through their hubs etc.

Maybe you could get lucky & find a Hiab or Flatbed Transport looking for Return Load who'd do it?

There are online people who broker return/back loads. Not used them myself, but a mate has. Like others say though - you have to be able to wait (a while maybe) & load to suit the courier timescales, and mate says (as others say here) that early responders might be chancing their arm on price.

All in all though. Wouldn't it just be easier to hire or borrow a van ? Probably cost a bit more, but less hassle and risk of damage.

Flatbeds are pretty rare as well. Being in Northumberland will never mean cheap!

Had a quote of 69 quid this morning on shiply…..its not fragile, so ill ring the guy Monday get it wrapped and ready then sort one of these back street guys out!

Thats a very good price!
It's surprising how many of the white van men use us to ship things. They take on a job - their backload vanishes - then they realise it's cheaper and faster to ship it on a pallet with us
