Moving mains socket

We have a mains socket in the living room which is mounted on the skirting board, with the bottom edge touching the carpet.
I would like to move it upwards about 18 inches, but the cable isn't long enough .

what is an acceptable way of extending the cables? I'm guessing a Choc block wrapped in sellotape isn't...

Alternatively, is it possible to obtain a mains plug where the cable exits from the "earth" end, or from the side?

Turn the socket upside down so normal plugs can be used

i'd just rotate it 90 degrees. or put it in a floor mounted box.

Solid floor or boards?

If boards, can you locate the j/box underneath an extent as required?

I've used Wago's in that situation but usually junction box under the floor

If it's a spur then see what the run's like back. If not awful then you could pull a new one in with the old one as you extract it.

If it's on a ring then that's more of a pain in the bum. If you're lucky and they're all in a line you could do a new cable run x 2 and move it up.

I was told by an electrician crimp connectors (similar one used on car wiring but rated for mains) was the only way to extend cables that are to be covered over with plaster etc even a junction box was a no no

do what I do get some pliers on it and pull like hell its surprising what u can sometimes get on them

only in walls. jb under the floor or exposed is ok

Fit surface mount socket and box where you want it, run cable back into existing box, use the choccy screw block, wrap in insulating table, fit a cover plate over the box. As done by a pro next door but one - so I assume it's an okayish solution.

Or plug an extension in and screw it to the wall - some have holes for that purpose.

Junction box under the floor is probab;y going to be the best way to go but it has to me maintainence free (like Wagos) not screw terminals unless you fancy putting a hatch in the floor.

I way be wrong but i thought you could plaster in wagos.

Use a Wagobox and as it's classed as maintenance free it does not need to be accessible once installed.

Floorboard has to come up to move a radiator anyway
