It is actually. I had a house with no blood letting or some such in the deeds and wondered what it was about.

Haven't read the deeds so wouldn't know about any restrictive covenants, but I'd have thought that this table would have been more of a storage place for cheese, cold meats etc rather than a butcher's table. I'm not sure of the date the house was built but I'd hazard a guess at the very late 1800s so, if what Kayos says is true, by that time people had largely stopped chopping up dead animals in their cellars.

The cellar also had a coal chute at the front, so there was a bit of conflict of applications in any case.

Option 2 : I often use 2" rachet straps as slings (in a continious loop) over my shoulder when carrying bulky / heavy objects, the weight is on your spine and your hands are free to stabilise the load. 2 not-so-big lads with a strap each over their shoulder and under the slab. If you get more than one person to do it make sure they don’t get competitive and rush it. You’d be better off doing it slowly and surely yourself with blocks, levers, planks etc. Getting more than one bloke on a lift can be dangerous.

Besides wanting it moved outside to use there, I also want the space freed up. So one way or another, it's going. If it snaps in two, so be it.

Damaging another human is not in the plan. Which is why I asked for suggestions.

If it hasn't snapped balancing on two brick piers for 100 years, it'll probably survive standing in the garden as a potting table.

and dont forget a job method and risk assessment and go on a lifting course if you were nicking it it would be out in 5 minutes flat . i managed to get a large thick paving slab up a ladder and capped the chimney off on my own in younger days

I really quite like it in its current format. It's still going to be a table top so one piece good, two pieces nowhere near as good.

I moved 31 paving slabs at 72kg each on my own. I’m 74 and only weigh 70kg but loaded my van, unloaded it and moved them through the house. So two. People will move your slab easily.
