Moving a 6 Ton Truck

So I've been offered a pretty good deal on a DAF 4x4 truck that's ex mod and unregistered.
It's located about 170 miles away though and the seller is not keen on registering it as he says it's a hassle.
Ideally I'd like to get it transported down to here, get it plated and then register it but I've put a request on Shiply and heard nothing.
Another option would be to insure it on the chassis number, book it in for plating here and then drive it the 170 miles to the plating appointment, apparently it's legal but driving 170 miles to a plating appointment might cause some friction with VOSA if I get pulled.

I forget what your plans are for the truck? If its a camper etc then (IIRC) you need to pay attention to what order you do things in, as its easier one way than the other. I can look up the details if its applicable to your end purpose?

Id start calling some transport companies directly. Whilst i have had some decent sucess out of shiply/uship type websites, theyve generally been for 'normal' stuff, cars etc, out of the ordinary stuff will probably get ignored

Stoke On Trent to just outside of Bridgwater in Somerset, about 170 miles in total.

Hi, Trade plates only cover road tax and registration, it will still need to be MOT'd.

I've always found denby transports great for larger stuff, if they have a run from your part of the world/its not time sensitive they can do it at a better rate. They have moved a few bits of heavy plant for me, and the service and professionalism was amazing. They sent the correct vehicle for the job, and the driver knew his stuff.
You will of course pay the going rate for this service (it cost me a grand last time, but that was shipping to europe to my door in the middle of nowhere from somewhere up norf), but after dealing with muppets accepting the bid and trying to load a 7t jcb into a curtainsider even that wasn't too painful.

From memory of mine
Trade plates will allow you to move a vehicle for repairs, testing, modification or to take it for an MOT providing it is booked in with either the reg or chassis number
Basically imagine them as a portable tax disc that shows a police man you are a trader legitimately moving a vehicle, when the ANPR pings the vehicle it will show traders details and confirm if they have insurance, it will not check MOT.
They can also be used to move an unregistered vehicle, via a test run, delivery or for repairs / modifications.
But if you get pulled and the vehicle has lets say no brakes you could be done for the brake related offence so it should be checked before you move it.

Hi, Yes that's right. Trade plates have limitations and I was trying to not get too technical about them, a lot of people think they are a sort of 'cloak of invisibility'.

Thats why I would just MOT it or get it delivered as you could still get done or brake down on the way home, its a bit heavy for the AA

The thing is it might be able to be derated to class 4 mot once made into a camper so to have it registered, now might be a mistake, also could come under class 4 mot because it is 4x4. depending on weight.
I mot'd a 7.5 ton library truck that was not actually mot'd previously, just so the guy could take it for weighing to derate it. The ministry said it needed to be mot'd but it could not be done at truck mot station, there are some weird rulings out there.
