Hi Lads,
Finally had a go with my Clarke 100en welder. Using Gasless wire and steel of about 0.8.
As suspected I made a right mess of it. But its first time even turning a welder on. Yes a bit weary when I first started. But then the nurves disappeared.
I finally after a few attempts, managed to see what I was actually doing behind that dark mask.
I know with thin metal you are soppose to do little bits otherwise you blow holes even distort the metal which i did on some of my practice bits.
I am practising using thin steel as I will be or wanting to weld car body panels. I am using gasles as I do not have a garage so will be outside.
So my question is this. When you are welding away, say in a straight line at what speed roughly are you moving or should I be moving. Or is this just a judgement thing.
Also on an occassion I found that the wire came through and I had to stop, cut it off. Did not seem to get an arc if that is the correct termonology.
Also wire speed for thin metal I found to be at around 5 - 6. Would you say that was about right or should I just keep experimenting.
There will be many more questions to follow. Later
Cheers
Dave
