we all move out of the way for the blue lights to pass us by quickly

but what if it cost you for doing so?

If at traffic lights and you move over the white line to let an ambulance or fire engine through, if caught on camera (which my friend was) you will be fined...apparently

It's something we all do but the only (official) defence is if you have been actually directed to by a police officer. I'd still appeal though if they have the photo of your car they must also have the ambulance.

You can appeal, and if you explain the circumstances they should have evidence that a service vehicle has gone through the red light also, I know a friend of mine was also done in the same circumstances and the fine was removed.

I got stopped because I wouldn't cross the traffic lights for a police car. They then forced me to pull into an active bus lane. I quoted the law to them but they wouldn't listen and the bus lane camera had also got me.

They lost big time.

I don't agree with it to be honest. It's potentially somebodies life at risk and they want to fine you for creeping beyond a red light? It is the same with bus lanes.

People have been fined for moving into a bus lane to allow emergency vehicles to pass. I assume the fines were eventually squashed but the cameras automatically issue them !

The Highway Code per-se isn't law. There's also a principle that you can break the law to prevent another law being broken. There was a bloke who chased his stolen van at speeds upto 100mph, he was in touch with the police all the time and was able to direct them to where he was so they could stop the van. He wasn't arrested or charged with any driving offences.

I was on my bike in a fifty limit, came over the brow of a hill and a car had stopped because an ambulance was coming towards it. I managed to pull up but it was close to an accident and completely unnecessary. People panic, the ambulance driver will get through in the safest way possible.

The amount of people that just slam on the brakes when they see an emergency vehicle behind. They need to start thinking about it instead.

If it's a 60mph single carriage way with oncoming vehicles, try slowing down and indicating left when the oncoming vehicles have passed.

The idea is that the emergency services get to their destination as fast as possible. Sometimes that means carry on going with it behind you.

if you fall of your bike and your injured badly and ambulance takes 20 mins to get there and your legs hanging off and your screaming just think someone may have had the same attitude as u at traffic lights

Or, your significant other has called for police assistance?

they either turn up late or don't bother calling at all even on a 999 call mention you are getting burgled though and going to shoot them and there there like sh...t of a stick not just one but a whole bunch of them specialy after they tell u theres no one available as there all busy

Absolutely right! or maybe they marching toward a gunman shooting people in a busy town centre, @zzr1200 you cant make that silly judgement based on your preconceptions about a job!

a good example . last year a drug deal was going down last year just outside my house 30 yards up road bmw a merk and a couple more flash cars they were shooting an air rifle at the road signs / I phoned the old bill and reported it .I was asked to go take there car numbers . yea rito we will send armed response round . 20 mins later a lone copper pulled up after the gang had gone . I said your 2 late mate they have gone sad but true . now I don't bother even saying anything and let them get on with it

Didn't say I dont move, just said thems the rules. You move over the line you takes your chances. Having been at the other end and being the one with blue lights on, I'd rather sit at a light for 30 secs than have someone jump the light and cause a crash !
