Mouse infestation

I’ve found these types of trap to be very effective, they stand on the platform which is raised and it gets set off before they’ve even tried to take the bait.
As above make sure they can’t get to and food, my biscuits etc are in upper wall hung cupboards.
And try to find out where they’re getting in, under floor/solum vents if damaged can be an entry point.

Picture makes me laugh. My cousin and I when in our teens took devilish delight in a hardware store setting all the mouse traps which were sitting on a display. Heaven help the first person who dared touch one. Perhaps that's why they all come with a staple in place preventing them being set before it's removed now?

My dad is 87 what happens to the poor cat after that.

Plenty of older cats with the cats protection league etc that need a home smell would put the mice off.

Our cat always leaves "the green thing". Gall bladder maybe?

All I know is it's pretty unpleasant when you tread on it in bare feet!

It's funny how his meow changes when he brings something in in the dead of night and deposits it on the landing. If you don't get up quick enough to take it off him and thank him, the "crunching" starts. Always starts from the head down. Quite amazing finding just the back legs of a rabbit and one very full cat.

On a slight tangent, I found one of the dogs eating a pigeon in the garden, obviously the cat had knocked it down but didn't fancy it, much to the pooch's delight
I'd certainly recommend a cat / cats as anti vermin operators, I've not seen a live mouse indoors for decades !

One thing I've found with our permanent population of mice, is that they don't seem to like the expanded foam. But being a stone built property the walls are mouse highways. Occassionally the big boys move in (rats) and we get the rat man in. All activity in the loft none in the house, except the occasional shrew.

We have always had cats but Dad is 87 and does not want a cat. Full stop.
So despite it being the best method it's a non starter.
So I am looking at other methods.

I am not convinced he is overrun by mice. Not one in anytrap yet.

But next week I will be sticking more traps down and seeing how we go now I have looked in the cupboards myself..

Used to live in a block of flats that mice/rats moved into. Glue traps were pretty effective if you’re not squeamish about dispatching

Peanut butter on Little nippers works best for me, I found one worked well in side a pipe as the mouse feels safe inside it, I would set traps for months to be certain they have gone

Can't beat peanut butter, I've used it for yrs I remove the pin off a little nipper & smear the nut variety peanut butter round & under the loop & rod, catches em every time!! like the idea of a pipe, must try that next time.

i used to lay tin sheets in the grass for a week then take my bedlington whipet lurcher out and lift them up. the mice used to make tunnels under the flattened grass and bomb round the dog snapping in every direction to catch them then she ate them

At our last house, our cats were absolutely crap: When I was installing the CH & had the floor up, the cats wouldr eguarly go under the floorboards, but never came up with a mouse & we used to get periodic infestations despite the cats. We also used, with success, the Little Nipper trap with raisins, although peanut butter is held to be good. One note that I haven't seem mentioned (may have missed it) is handling: if you handle a trap/bait with bare hands you leave a scent on it, which makes them even more wary. I understand that wearing gloves prevents this. It's wise to wear gloves anyway due to the poison plus the diseases they can carry. In our current house, we get the buggers trying to move in in the autumn and have had good results with the little black plastic tunnel bait stations and off the shelf bait blocks form a pest control place.
