We used to use them for work - now simply use the foam squishy ones, as do our customers around the world. Have to be fitted correctly and deep enough, then they are superior to the moulded ones in my opinion. Customers in South America then require external ear defenders to be worn over the top of those - plants are that noisy!

Correct, a lot of folk don't know how to fit them and just push them in.

You just push them in until you feel them pushing on the tympanic membrane then pull it out 2mm

I prefer the christmas tree style.
Adding outer muffs, you get to diminishing returns.
After a certain point of Db reduction, the noise ends up traveling thru
your bones.

I use decibullz for shooting- I just cannot get on with proper ear defenders!

No. The DIYearplug. They come from Dunfermline, and are damned good...

When I worked at the Newspaper press room we used the foam and the muffs we had 3 Goss Metroliners that was apparently the equivalent of a jet taking off while the presses were running we worked 1/2 hour on and 1/2 hour off on break to save the hearing. This is the one I worked on after they went digital and scrapped them.

I did some work for a Company making Stainless steel extraction hoods for commercial kitchens. My bench was behind an old rotary turret press, used for punching a 15 hole grid x 20 for mesh covers. The noise was beyond. In ear or over ear, or both made little difference to the constant BOOM BOOM BOOM.
My bench would bounce it was that bad.

I found [using in ear headphones with over ear defenders on top] with the music at normal level it almost cut the noise to nil. However the noise still came through the jaw bone. In the end I jacked as the constant Boom boom was affecting my metal health.
