The downside of Ash is it rots even faster than pine. The slightest smell of water getting in & its rotten. Just ask anyone who has owned a Morris traveller.

I had a Morris J2 a Ford Thames and a Mitsubishi L300 for race transporters ,all with between the seats engines and never noticed the heat . including several trips to S of France in the summer .

Posh ! I had the 850T (the even smaller engined / lower power version of the 900T), overheating was so bad I got very good at changing headgaskets in pub carparks - often followed by a celebratory pint or 2..
I let a mate share the drive from Cambridge up the A1 to Tyneside, my instructions were simple "pull over if the temp goes high - no hard cornering or it will starve of oil" - he was that busy watching the temp he forgot to slow down for a roundabout and starved the oil - the motor went bang in a big way.
I should have learned my lessons but I bought a Renault Trafic day van recently, sold it today as It just wasn't getting used enough to keep it..

Volvo! Tgb1314 (or c304) ex Swedish army ambulance. Portal axles and diff locks in all 3 axles. Surprisingly more capable off road than the pinz. Designed for the same contract the Land Rover 101 won with the British army, despite the Volvo being many, many times better
didn't know about the oil starvation problem. The guy who I knew in the 'Amego and friends' club used to pick dead ones up. put them in the back of a sherpa 400 and do his stuff on them to keep them running. I think rust got most of them.Posh !
