motorcycle panniers

I am going to spray the front covers on a pair of Givi panniers in metalic silver to match the rest of the bike,the fixed parts will be left dark grey and just cleaned up,my question is,do you require a special primer and base coat for plastic. I will be using aerosol spray paint and will it be good enough to get a good finish,also would i need to laquer the top coat.Thanks any help would be appreciated.

if its bare plastic then yes , plastic primer is needed

and yes clear coat is needed over the baecoat

Thank you for the quick reply.The panniers are made of some form of bare grey plastic.Would i be able to get all the sprays in aerosol form.

should do yes , scuff the surface with agrey scotch pad then look on the back of the panel for a code that says the type of plastic used

you should then be able to ask the maker if their primer is suitable , but most are almost universal on plastics
