I used to have a red Super road rocket 45 years ago I was a Rocker, Golden years .

If you are rebuilding the engine dont forget to check the ball bearing in the scavange pipe in the sump there is a little bar through the pipe that stops the ball bearing shooting up these wear and snap, to repair you have to split the crank cases .
If it starts bellowing smoke through the exhaust this may be the fault

Always wanted Super Rocket, had a Triumph 110 though, as you say golden years.

Definition of a hammer :- A tool used to find and destroy the most expensive part near to whatever you are trying to hit. This is highly applicable in my case.

Were they the crappy 6-spring bsa clutches that had to be replaced ? The triumph 4-spring one was much better and bsa ended up using them in the end.

It was, and the parts around seemed to be made of cheese, at least Hamrax was just a short ride away. Still a great bike though. Would like a std A10, or an A65. Good luck with your one there, looks very nice.

A lot of the parts are or were made in places like taiwan or india where they have yet to discover the magic of heat treatment. I was lucky enough in my restoration so far , not to have to buy many mechanical parts , and a friend who was converting a b31 to a zb goldstar gave me the boxy profile mudguards and stays , headlamp nacelle and the ariel hubs. I do need a new tank as the original one needs plating , but i am worried about the quality of the chrome on the indian repro's.

I originally wanted a bsa trials bike until i saw the price so i ended up with a gas gas instead, never had time to ride it so someone winged at me to sell it instead

Ronan, I used to go on long trips with parts & tools and be ready to file the tangs down.. should've tried to convert it but pre-internet and didn't know what/how. Stuvy, my neighbour is a trials rider, has an older Gas Gas - had a nasty accident on it though, stabbed by a lever.. ouch!

I know there are specialists in the uk and elsewhere who adapt suzuki clutches to fit the bsa mainshaft , they are mainly for the goldstar but they will of course fit the big twins, i have heard they transform the bike.
