Hi all.

On with an old 50's BSA at the moment, turning a bog standard (and slightly boring) bike into a trail-type bike.

I've had the frame powdercoated but am now wishing I'd bent the rear seat loop rails up to give the back mudguard slightly more clearance.

Is it possible to do this cold / without ruining the paint or have I cooked my goose?

The goose is cooked, you shot the fox and the pooch is screwed, sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings. You could try padding it well, take the back wheel out, prop the support on something then jump on the frame or try beating it with a dead blow mallet but it would be hit and miss.

I would have thought powder coating might take a bit of movement.
I suppose the problem is how apply sufficient force without damaging the coating.

I used to have a red Super road rocket 45 years ago I was a Rocker, Golden years .

If you are rebuilding the engine dont forget to check the ball bearing in the scavange pipe in the sump there is a little bar through the pipe that stops the ball bearing shooting up these wear and snap, to repair you have to split the crank cases .
If it starts bellowing smoke through the exhaust this may be the fault

The only thing i can think of off the top of me head is a kickstart and gear lever. I did have a tiger cub in bits , everytime i went into the shed i fell over it so donated it to a friend who lets me use his lathe and mill.

To attempt an answer to your original question breezer, i reckon the power coat would come off, thats my experience of it anyway.

I know a bloke who had a super road rocket, he was the only bloke
who never said "I'm building a chop at the moment". He had the bike until a year or so ago. I gather the bloke he flogged it to[for a ridicoulous sum of money] has made a RGS rep with it.
I can't understand why someone would prefer a replica of something to a really nice super road rocket. Me, I cut the back of the frames off and put hard tails on them;-)

When i bought my a10 (for a very small sum of money really) , i had it in the workshop at work , everyone who came in or out and seen it said the same thing ,"do a rgs replica".
I have done the restoration as a standard plain old boring touring a10 and i am happy with that decision. the chap i bought it from had a genuine rgs ( i seen the cert from the bsa oc) and i can see the attraction , they are a wonderful machine.
