Motorcycle collection and delivery

Here's a quick one for you:

My friend has spotted a motorcycle on Gumtree in England. He lives in Scotland. He's looking for recommendations for a courier to collect and deliver the bike door to door. Has anyone used a service that they can recommend?

can't recomend a firm but when I asked for quotes, bristol - Manchester the best was £75...but that was to suit them for pick up......had quotes upto £225........
I just looked at google "Motor Cycle Transport" there was a web site that u put in the deatails then u get quotes.......then I just looked at their ratings........
the guy sold the bike Honda 305, 1966 as I was driving there.......dohhhhhh......Frank

I have just used Shiply for an old bike with poor paintwork -was cheap but luck of the draw if the guy that quotes has the right kit and experience.

I have not used https://www.justmotorcyclestransport.com/about-us/ but heard second hand that they were good.

I've had a quote back from Motorcycle Delivery UK for £150, so that's a starting point. I'll look into the others. Thanks

Hire a Transit or Vivaro type van, get a couple of cam/friction straps and a plank to run up and do a road trip. I go on deliveries with the local bike shop, we delivered a Bonneville American to Scunthorpe last Tuesday in their high top Transit. Make sure it's a front wheel drive though, the rear drive ones are too high

I drove from Bristol to Berwick Upon Tweed to collect an Aprilia RSV.
Stuck it in the back of my T5 and drove home.

Sometimes it's simpler to hire a van and do it yourself.

I got quotes from £60 to £160 to collect a bike from Bolton
and deliver near to Gatwick. The £160 quote was the next day, I guess the low
quotes were all days they had a van passing.
Bloke called Stuart was my van driver, diamond geezer.
I paid about 60 quid.

All Stuart did was move motorbikes by the look of it.

I reckon on £60 a day + 25p a mile to hire a van.( + £10 public transport to pick up/drop off the van (I just use a push bike))
Work out a break even point, then figure if its worth it to transport yourself - properly!

Sometimes, it's easier/cheaper to do public transport to hire company near the bike, and just hire a van one way.

Yes it would need to be on an oversize pallet and strapped securely.

We have shipped them quite often. From say Southampton to Newcastle would cost about £80+VAT. Would need to be booked as 2 pallet spaces. Not bad for 300 or 400 miles! We ship quite a few abroad as well - then the blokes fly out.

I got lucky & borrowed a Peugeot Expert from work when I collected mine!

My only suggestion would be if going down this road is to make sure its strapped down securely
