motorcycle caliper to fork bracket

Hey guys so new to welding again as i have not done any for about 5 years so gonna buy a gas mig welder, but i want to make a bracket to fit my caliper to my fork leg ill post a picture so to give you a better idea

the caliper is not quite in position there but i wanna make a custom bracket but trying to figure out what thickness metal to use and which metal i was looking at mild steel as its stronger than aluminium

i was thinking of using some flat bar mild steel 2 pieces then weld a a piece in the middle so it looks like a H but on its side

It would be better made from one piece of something like at least 6mm plate.

so 6mm mild steel plate would be more than strong enough for the bracket ? , i could make it from a mild steel plate with holes drilled in yea

I would make a template using nuts bolts, threaded bar etc to make a mock up, then take it to a engineer to mill/fabricate it.

I don't like messing about with brakes as would rather have it over enginnered

A lump of 6mm mild steel would be strong enough but way too heavy, enough to affect the handling.

It really ought to be a similar size lump of aluminium and frankly, is simple enough to hacksaw and hand file if you can't find an off the shelf item. It would still need to be the correct grade of aluminium made to exacting dimensions.

I usually lock the brake on the disc where i want it, air or hydraulic makes no odds, then make a card template, or a bit of ply, till i get the shape and hole spacings i want. Then make one in metal to suit. If it needs spacing, i measure thickness with a vernier. And machine up whats required. Then weld them on. Once Ive proved it works, last time I machined a new one out of one piece.
