Motorbility car,

Hoping somebody can enlighten me, This is not for me, A friend of mine's wife is entitled to have a motorbility car, At the moment I believe they get a payment every month because they use their own car,At the moment they are thinking about having the car option,I was just thinking does this mean he won;t be able to use the car if his wife is not with him?

I'm not sure about the Motability rules but if the Taxation class is changed to Disabled the vehicle can only be used by or on behalf of the disabled person for their needs.

My grandparents have one, He would be able to use the car without his wife as long as it is for her benefit. All he has to say if anyone ever questioned it is that she wasnt feeling very well and wasnt up to going out with him but in the 10 years my grandparents have had theirs nobody has ever asked or questioned it

My friend's wife drives theirs and he can't drive a car so she uses it for everything. I'd say if she goes out in the car and leaves him at home she is definitely doing him a favour.

If you pay for the Vehicle excise duty and not use the free tax, you are then allowed to use the vehicle if you make arrangements with Royal Sun Alliance the motorbility insurers.

and as long as the person driving the car doesnt go and park in disabled bays and on yellow lines shopping without the disabled person in the car AS SOME DO and can get reported for it

I scrubbed that out of my reply, but too true, ****s.

I was in Matalan a week or so ago with Dearly Beloved. Empty carpark, nearly, but the alarm engineers still parked in a disabled bay close to the front door. What a pair of lazy, inconsiderate fkwts.

I reported them to the management, and not the first time I have done something similar.

Parking in disabled bays without a badge really bugs me. They should clamp them.

I understand that if you get the higher rate of disability living allowance you can get a Motorbility car. You can 'top up' the allowance to get a bigger or more costly car. The recipient of DLA doesn't have to be present, but obviously the rules are there to limit the abuse of the system such as getting a taxed and insured motability car so that one of your children can afford a car.

The Motorbility scheme needs reforming though. It's boss was paid a package worth £800k last year.
