motorbike work table?

I did have a hydraulic lift table but sold it as it was to heavy to put up against the wall.
I dont have much room in my garage as one third of it is my workshop.
the other is just big enough for two m/bikes and a bench.
why do these lifts have to be so heavy and why do you need to raise it nearly 3 ft?
would of thought 2ft would be good enough.
anyway I've just bought myself a new Honda Forza 750.
I'll then will see how long the table need to be.
its just mainly for servicing as m/cycle shop labour charge is silly money.

Supposedly heavy indicates strong and stable , all else equal. And height possibly to reduce back damage for anyone spending a lot of time praying/working on the M/C.
Totally agree with costs of servicing but they have to make a living and if 'enthusiasts 'cannot or will not do simple things like oil changes etc then I have no sympathy with them.

Have had a good one for years, drops to casters so it can be rolled, takes some seriously heavy bikes and doubles as a decent work bench, lifts to 800mm and anything in between

I do have a lift which I bought fo my T500 two stroke bike but its to wide.
decided to sell the old bike as it wasn't getting used much.
I'll see how that goes for the scooter.

I’m 6’2” and like to be able to stand fully and save my knees

Gonna wait for our house situation to sort its self first before I make a table to work on my bikes

Try working on a bike at less than 3 feet for 8 hours and tell me you don't get back ache. Of course you can lower it but you cannot raise it above it's design height. You don't have to use them fully extended it's called adjustability.

I can understand if your working on it all day.
but like of us who use it a couple times of the year don't need a heavy lift.
each to their own.
I would just like to have a lighter lift something a bit more manageable.
a few years ago it would've been ok but now I'm not as strong as I used to be.

I really don't want to poor cold water on your wishes but from past experiences that looks seriously unstable. I can imagine the out of balance forces that would result in the removal of a wheel or even worse front wheel and forks. Just an impression.

I agree, and I am concerned, though it’s apparently rated for 350kg and are quite common here in some of the dealerships. I will do a bit more research before I buy anything.

I only have trials / enduro nikes so really don’t need a full bench.

But where do you put all the bits n pieces . I'm afraid I'm down to a TL250 now and it gets heavier every time I look at it.

Abba Skylift is great, not cheap though.

Goes higher on front lift but the mirrors and screen were touching the trusses.

My dad from the 1970's used our old coffee table with some ply added to the top and a wooden box for adjustability, he used a block and tackle from a girder in the garage roof to raise and lower a bike.

I now use a Sealey hydraulic adjustable and just leave it on the floor lowered when not in use, I am quite tall and get back pain constantly bending:

I had that sealey one. I bought the bigger one for two reasons - first I was always getting folk asking me to do things on bikes but the bigger one will easily take a quad or a ride on if you make removable wings, and secondly it’s air over hydraulic. That is important as it means that it goes up and down smoothly. The hydraulic only ones always seem to bounce.

They have a panel to do back wheel stuff also. I sold it which I regret. It was always in the way here.

I will probably buy it back at some point but I’ll sink it into the workshop floor so it’s out of the way. Or build a dedicated shed for it.

I've been using a gantry over a bench made from 4" x 2" with scaffold planks as a top for ages. The gantry is much more versatile than a lifting bench as you can use it as a safety strap when you're putting some beef behind something, you can suspend the engine separate to the frame, tilt one end or the other, strap the bike to the bench and load suspension etc etc.

I'm going to buy a hydraulic lift, but it'll just replace the bench and I'll still use the gantry above.

TL250 - that’s a rare and lovely machine. I had a TL125 in my teens, so much better than the 123 Montesa that preceded it - I managed to get in the awards every time out on it (though only had it for a month!).

As for somewhere to put stuff, I’ve got four benches in the workshop so always set my self up near to one. I’ve currently a little manual lift that goes under the engine, but it only raies the bike about six inches.
