Don't know if it's still right, but not wearing a helmet used to be a criminal not traffic offence as I found out in the 70's when taking part in the anti-helmet rallies when I was a "bullet proof" teenager 
so technically I have a criminal record

Section 16(4) Road Traffic Act 1988 - level 2 fine - fixed penalty offence - summary offence
Regulation 4 Motor Cycles (Protective Helmets) Regulations 1998
It is an offence for a person to drive or ride a motorbicycle on a road without wearing protective headgear.
NB: Only the person without the helmet can be prosecuted unless he/she is under 16 in which case an aid/abet charge could be considered.
Exemptions
- An occupant of a sidecar,
- a follower of the Sikh religion whilst wearing a turban,
- a mowing machine,
- it is (at the time) being propelled by a person on foot.

Can't you find anything that pre-dates that? the law would have been passed around 1975/6 as we were protesting in 1977

but on both counts would u wear a turban
and not wear a proper helmet even given the choice . i had 3 mates not wearing helmets note the word HAD

Nah, not any more. I been done for it a few years back - only going less than half a mile, pillion on a mates bike. Pulled by a traffic car, what are the chances??
£30 quid fine. "Improper headgear". Mate was threatened with "Aiding and abetting not wear a crash helmet". Complete rubbish, no idea why the copper would say such a thing. We both looked at him and went "yeah, right".

New hat finally arrived yesterday, dont use 'E Cheques' to pay for stuff, a PITA.
Anyway, got myself a Shark S900. Seems to have a good reputation.
Comfy? yes, good fit, yes, a bit tight but my old one was like a tupperware pot. Catch mechanism? fantastic, works on a ratchet and can be done up as tight as I like wit space for adjustment, some (most?) with clips are not adjustable.
The sun visor thingy? seems like a potentially good idea, the Chunkular hooter is well developed so it is a close fit. if I start using the the sun visor I will take the die grinder to the bottom of it and invalidate the warranty.
So a worthwhile purchase, and I can see through the visor. Also a vast improvement in peripheral vision.

Sounds like you got a bargain! I bought myself a Duchini d409, 'bout 80 notes if I remember right. Scores 4 stars aswell, but it fits nice and has good ventilation. Wind noise isnt too bad and the internal sunvisor is pretty good aswell.
Must admit to being tempted by a new Bonnie..............
