Motor wiring

It came from a big paper shredder, i kept at associated circuit board to power/control it but in the interest of making some space I'd to get rid of it and keep just the motor, so how do I wire it?

There's 15 ohms between the red and black wire, 15 between between red and yellow and 30 between black and yellow, as if there's two matching coils in series.

Only a guess, but live red one direction, live yellow the other. Paper shredders have a reverse to unclog them. That would give you your reading of 15, 15 & 30 as red to yellow would actually go red-black-yellow

Edit, I've just reread it & ive got the colours wrong, but you get the gist. The red would be the common.

Could well be as start winding(yellow) has the higher resistance.
But as above dont blame me it lets the magic smoke out.
Try with a 3 amp fuse first.

You have the complete control circuit which is still working? If so you can run up the motor and probe for voltages / current with a clamp meter.

If it's like the cheap canopy motors, neutral to black, one way live to red and capacitor terminal 1, capacitor terminal 2 to yellow.
Other way, neutral to black, live to yellow and capacitor terminal 1, capacitor terminal 2 to red.

So with a 2-pole on-off-on switch, live to one common, live through capacitor to the other common, wire red and yellow to diagonally-opposite pairs so they change over - *should* give you forward and reverse as long as you stop between directions?

Anyone suffering a canopy that'll open but not wind back in - the capacitors are cheap and get hot, replacing them usually gets it working again!

Yep, worked perfectly, thanks everyone. Now it can go back on the shelf never to be used because the shaft isn't cylindrical.
