motor wiring help

the pic shows the wiring i found when i opened the connection box on my colchester lathe motor (dual voltage), i presume it is wired in star , i know it is wired for 440volt as i had it connected in work to a 440v supply.

how do i rearrange the links for delta or for 220volt operation ? i have done this before with other motors but they had the 6 studs and the little brass links and so was easy.

Remove the 2 shorting bars and leave the 3 input wires connected.

With a meter, find which power lead the empty studs have connectivity through and connect it to the next one. For example, if the top roght terminal has connectivity to the bottom right terminal, then jumper it to the top terminal. Once you figure one out, the rest should be the same direction.

No mike i was expecting a label with the details on it but nowt, and nothing in the owners manual either, i'll have a go at what you're saying shenion but i'd prefer if some knew for 100% definite though, any sparks out there know ?

Hello Ronan,

if you look at the winding tails you will see they are labelled. This will give you the three windings, something like u1 - u2, v1 - v2 and w1 - w2. . Take one end of each winding in turn and put it on the start of the next one, e.g. remove u2 from its stud and put it on the v1, and so on you'll end up with three studs with windings on and three empty, you don't need the links. Connect your three phases to the three pairs of tails.
