I have a Clarke CL500M lathe/mill combo. The current motor is a single phase ac motor 550w. I want to swap it out for a variable speed motor and there are a couple of options I am considering
1. 3 phase motor with VFD
2. 1000w brushless motor with controller
The DC motor appeals to me because of the compact size of the motor (about 1/3 of the size of the current motor) and I'm told DC motors have better low speed torque?
What I am hoping is the 1000w DC motor would be more powerful than the current AC 550w motor? Is this the case or is there something else other than watts to consider?
Thanks for any help
