Motor not working capactor help ?

Ok got a motor that does not work
If power is applied and you spin by hand it runs
So I'm assuming it's just an capactior but 2 problems
A access to said motor and 2nd marking on capacitor

And capactor markings ?

As can be seen by top photo access to said motor is carp can't even get to motor box with a dumpy screw driver

So can I cut the cable (with the power off to the capactor and just joint a new capactor on to ? And hiw do I know what wire is positive is supposed to be in the cable ?

Also capactor specs I read that as 8mf 400/450 volts ?

It's a single phase I think .5 horse power but it hard to see I got that from the mechine plate not the motor plate

It's an 8μF 450V capacitor. Cut the leads and attach the new capacitor. Make sure that it's switched off first

8uf it doesn't matter which way round the wires go.

TBH the first thing I'd do is spin it up, let it run down and listen for the switch clicking as it gets slower.

As Pete implies, rather than a failed capacitor, the centrifugal switch which cuts the start capacitor in and out of circuit may well have stuck open or had one of the fulcrum rivets drop out. Easy to fix once the rotor is removed from the casing.

Simplest thing is to try a new capacitor, do a temporary hook-up to see if it sorts it before doing a more permanent solution. That looks like some kind of a golf ball cleaner so I would suggest soldered joints with glue lined heat shrink to waterproof them.

On a small motor like that there may not be a centrifugal switch ie its a PSC motor.

ive spoken to a bloke today and he said he expects the capacter to be contiunius run capactor so should have no switch in it

update forgot to let everybody know bought a capactior off a local bloke at £15 quite expensive compaied to online but he was very helpfull and i could collect the same day

installed it and we now have a working mechine again thanks for the help people
