I have a 300w solar set up with 2 x 100ah leisure batteries, but I wondered can I make this set up charge the vehicle battery with some special gagety thing?
Obviously you have no idea how tight I am! must be a cheaper way?I have a Ctek system that will use power from the domestic batteries to keep the starter one charged, but you are looking at over £400 for the complete charge system
I need to explain my self a bit better.
I have two 150w solar panels, these charge two 100ah batteries using solar charge thingy for two panels in to two batteries.
The issue I have is as its often stood unused for a month or two the engine battery goes flat, so I believe you can get some gadget that will use the solar batteries to charge the vehicle battery?
I cant just link the tree as the vehicle battery is a different size so would cause capacity issues
Thanks Jord.Fathers got a 255ah gel battery for the living area known as the lesuire battery and the motor or engine is 110ah battery when one or the other is full it diverts to the lower battery fit and forget the solar system runs through a morning star controller so as not to cook everything as he also has 2 solar panels up top. There are no capacity issues with one being smaller than the other he has has this system running since 2003 with no problems, another tip you may do to help concever power is take out all the old stile bulbs and replace with led one father said you will be amased at the difference.
Cheers
Jord
Sorry too expensive! Seriously there must be a small gadget thing like the thing above that will do it?Convert the 2 x 12v 100Ah solar-maintained batteries to 240v AC mains with a £9.99 inverter:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200W-pow...ar-vehicle-Adapter-Sine-Wave-USB/202549098351
and then run a £3.99 12v trickle charger off it
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-Volt...harger-Car-Boat-Direct-AC-Charge/113167492478
Total cost £13.98 - is that low enough?
Thanks Jord.
I did the LEDs a few years ago big difference, the reason for two leisure batteries is the 12v Diesel heater so we can be totally off grid but still power the heater.
Obviously you have no idea how tight I am! must be a cheaper way?
If I do that it will affect the charging capacity and not fully charge one of the batteries.do you have anything draining the batteries? I assume the 300watts of solar is more than enough to keep up with losses?
if so.... just add a switch joining the main battery and the leisure batteries (that's all those split charge relays do)... don't worry about mixing capacities etc. it'll work perfectly :-)
