Motor all boxed up and well protected,well it is to your normal caring delivery driver anyway Going to be dropping it off at My good mate Andy Stobbs in the morning who has kindly offerd to get the delivery sorted for me (Thanks Andy)...Wont know how much delivery is untill Andy lets me know but ime putting it on the scales in the morning anyway,i will keep you updated Steve

Although it is now not essential my damaged motor is repaired, I hate to throw anything away that can be saved...or perhaps not saved as I am possibly finding out.

The part that broke I now know from replies is the centrifugal switch, googling for the specific part is providing no results, a couple of phone calls to motor repair agents suggests if I don't have a broken motor that is so big it requires a crane to lift (and a thick wallet to repair) there is little interest in helping.

I have however found the item on ebay at £5 from Hong Kong, the shaft size matches at 19mm but there are a few mm differences elsewhere (dia and height), they list it as a generic switch, no mention at all of Brook Compton, but I struggle to believe such an item is a multi fit part, bit like saying the bearings for a Myford will also fit a Harrison.

If others think it may work I obviously don't mind gambling a fiver, but don't want to order it if the consensus is not a chance in hell of it working.

I imagine your general electric motor will be well enough oiled but maybe you could remove the oiler/cap for the end bearing an fit a grease nipple for a squirt of graphite grease, as you cant really oil it when the motor is vertical. Trivial, just nit picking.

Not trivial at all and when I removed the motor I had I noticed it had the same oil caps so basically designed for working in a horizontal position.

Not sure grease would work though, the lubrication appears to channel down to soak a felt pad that then feeds the shaft.

It's not going to get heavy use but I would like to keep it lubed correctly so will have to consider something.

Trouble with oil is it may run from the bearing into the motor, graphite grease will be more inclined to stay where it's put, it does a great lubrication job.

Had a call from Andy Tonight..Postage is going to cost £12.63 with parcelforce (16KG) for 24 hour Steve using his courier . Just had a horrible thought too,i forgot to put a couple of keys in the box Oh and the missus says she wants her bed sheets back before winter

BACs, paypal etc and I will sort it, no problem about the key because my pulley is grubscrew and of course once the neighbours dogs finished with the sheets we will wash them in the beck (this is Cumbria), wait for a windy day and sail them over to you

A perfect replacement, the pulley has the smallest amount of play which I can probably sort with an old feeler gauge blade or two.

I also need to drill and tap a new location for the grub screw, the present one just misses the shaft by about 1mm.

Both adjustments easily sorted and actually enjoyable as part of the project.

I have also ordered from Hong Kong a centrifugal switch for the other motor, it's not identical and will take a bit of fiddling but think I have a 50/50 chance of getting it to work, only a fiver so worth the gamble.
