Being older technology you could easily find a stick of ram at bargain prices 2nd hand.

I got 4GB RAM off ebay for about £6.00

Ok when i sort the processor out the last thing is the SSD.

Looking at PC world they seem around 90quid for a 250gig but i thought they were that two years ago.

Anything on ebay worth getting. I think i have a 120 samsung on my current build but i find it fills it up very quickly with files i cant see to delete.

I got a Samsung Evo 500 GB SSD off CPC for £137 +vat

Sometimes the prices in PC World can be as cheap as anywhere else - sometimes!!!

A 3 TB HDD was cheaper from PC World than CPC, but PCWs website kept going round in circles so I bought from CPC to save my sanity!

Yes mate reset the bios using clearance jumper.

The problem is i am now on my second mobo ...i started with the Asus p5 that was quad core ready.

I also tried the other cpus in that board...its hard as i am not sure what is actually backward compatible...lol

And having to fit the cooler each time is a ball ache....

Well as long as they are the same socket you are usually ok.

Could be some duff ram - or even a sticky key on the keyboard!

Has the board got onboard graphics? Try that first. Please remind me which board it is?

No onboard graphics...and its this one.

Do you have a beep code, when booting the motherboard?
Just try the bare motherboard and processor, without memory/videocard
If you get no beep code the motherboard is faulty.
If not fit the videocard, you should get a different beep sequence, denoting a different error.

Some motherboards don't have buzzers on them. They need a seperate one attaching to the front panel riser on the motherboard, the speaker +/- pins...
