My second wife had the mentals, glad she left. Her mum was absolutely lovely.
Current wifey (definitely the last!) Lost her mum 14 years ago. She had suffered from dementia for the previous 10 years, I only saw her as a shambling wreck sadly.

Doesnt always follow, an ex of mine ( mother of my daughters) used to cause RTA`s walking down the pavement ,she had a mother akin to a Gargoyle. None too shabby on the eye to this day and she is into her early sixties.

I've had two mother-in-law's. The nicest thing I could say about the first one, was that she was a parasite. The second one, was the best mother-in-law any man could have asked for; she had what the nurses called "an angels passing", and sadly left us in 2010.

I tried to do that with an ex. Unfortunately the parents won. She will still be miserably attached to the squabbling pair of them and unhappy as a result. I couldnt take any more. Her mother won.

Every now and then there was a glimmer of hope that kept me going and hoping she would actually gain i dependence and then the mother particularly would do something outrageous like claim she was dying or the father was going to divorce her or they would threaten to withdraw things they paid for if that didnt work (like her car) and that just pulled her back in. She was never going to have independence of them. They hated me - I dont think I had a big enough wallet for them, I drove an old car that wasn't posh enough etc - their whole lives were about keeping up appearances but I got sick of being dragged into all that nonsense - I dont care what anyone else 'thinks'

My first one, was very formal, stiff upper lip, keeping up appearances hyencinth bucket type. But never did me any harm, poor woman's been sitting waiting to die since a stroke about 15 years ago.
The current one is ok, except when she tries to tell me what to do in my own house, when Ive just come home after working 16 hour days for 6 weeks. I bit my tongue, but the Mrs set her straight.

Fathers-in-law was my hero , we were like both mates and family ,. Sadly he passed 8 years ago .

As for mother I law , she is another story , I’ll leave you with this which paints her picture …. What’s the difference between an inlaw and an outlaw ….. no body wants an inlaw
