Mot welding

There is a bad patch of rot in my rear footwell. If a circle is drawn aroun it, it has a 20cm radius. It is rotten through and easily breaks away. If i want to weld this up, do i have to plate underneath, or can i just plate from inside the car and get away with it on mot?

you can plate either side but must be seamwelded but a piece let in so it would be flush is best as there will be no overlap for damp to sit between and start rotting again

Cheers mr snooper. I thought so, but had an arrogant mechanic (who isnt an mot tester, or the guy i use) tell me i had to plate from underneath with atleast 2.5mm steel, and had to take a sample of my welds with me aswell. Its for my brothers fiat, and he only wants an mot so he can sell it, and as its undr the carpet it wont notice so i'll just plate the inside and seam weld it with the clarke 151 he is renting for me

Some of his work is appauling apparently. He's been known to use silicon sealent to stop snapped bolts falling out, instead of removing the broken bit and using a new bolt. Didnt realy wanna talk to him but we were in the pub discussing what to do with this fiat and he wandered over and started telling me how to fix it

well i patches it up (took photos but couldnt see anything on them cos of the position of the hole) and it flew through the mot

the reason the photos didnt show the hole is because you plated over it

ok then mr pedantic, the photos didnt show the plates over the holes as they are in arkward places to photo, and even arkward'er to weld lol
