they might still fail it though as they have already seen the damage, they may well have a good look at itCut the fluff off, seal it with a lighter and take it back.
glad your not doing maintenance on an aeroplaneCut the fluff off, seal it with a lighter and take it back.
I agree re strength, I would and have happily towed a car with that belt and towed with a belt with even more damage than that, which would put far more strain than a human body hitting it, the problem is for the mot tester if passed but then checked by the ministry they would complain because that is more than the allowed fraying, as it appears to have a cut of more that 5% of the width ie 3mm.Is this a bit harsh for seatbelt fraying, can't see how this amount significantly reduces strength!!!
It is £60 for a new one and I get a free re-test, so I am just going to cut my losses and get it done.get a second hand one . it will cost an arm and a leg for a new one
The advise is the important bitI agree re strength, I would and have happily towed a car with that belt and towed with a belt with even more damage than that, which would put far more strain than a human body hitting it, the problem is for the mot tester if passed but then checked by the ministry they would complain because that is more than the allowed fraying, as it appears to have a cut of more that 5% of the width ie 3mm.
Nowadays because of the mot computer system they know which car you are/ should be testing before they walk though the door, and can ask to look over it if they then do a check and oh dear that car shouldnt have passed you are in the poo.
But I would have happily passed and advised BTW
If it is not there you can not test itIf it is not the drivers seat, remove the seat and the belt.
I'm possibly wrong, but I think this should work
That is not the best way to play the gameAre seat belts right / left handed? if not repair the fray as above and swap it with the one on the other seat. They might look closely at the previously affected side but bet they won't think to check the other side![]()
Maybe not - but seems like they weren't really playing fair to fail it in the first place? That is not the best way to play the game
