Yes it seems nobody likes what they've done to the car industry.
I drive a brand new Stillantis
"Vauxhall" van, it had the blank screen of death yesterday morning where all the clocks turn off (apparently it's not dangerous as there's no official recall) and it's twice reverted to displaying French and KMH on the Speedo!

They both have limited slip diffs .
Tapley meter test with him driving

I have a LSD on the Surf rear axle but I don't think they use a Tapley meter on it, is this ok?
I thought it was for locking diffs

Only a problem if the Surf has a locked centre diff.

I don't know how the Surf works. Is it permanent 4x4, or RWD until you engage the front axle ? If so does it have a diff in the transfer box, or solid drive front to back ?

It's got a centre locking diff and open front diff, normally in rear wheel drive only so I assume the centre diff isn't doing anything.

The JLR are a nightmare to test .
Tesla even worse.

If it is NOT in four wheel drive, the brake rollers will not be a problem.

A friend spent a couple of years looking for his ideal Integrale and finally found one in Germany so he bought and imported it, his first trip out in it was to get an MOT, but it got written off by a lorry hitting it while was waiting at some traffic lights

When I took my suzuki sv1000 for a mot last year his brake rollers had broken so he strapped a Tapley meter to the seat and got me to ride across the yard and hit the brakes. I think the engine braking from v twin would have passed without touching the brakes.

When I had my 80” the garage I took it to always used the Tapley meter.

As an apprentice in the 70s it was normal procedure for an apprentice to go out with the tester and get the tapley meter set up and take the readings. A few minutes out the workshop, which was nice, and even better with one of the testers, who used to pop down to the council office while on test and get me to run inside and pay his rent while we were out.

I've just been reading the testing procedure for tesla's, looks like you spend as much time on the touch screen as looking under the car.

Limited slip diff in an axle will affect brake readings on the rollers. Shouldn't damage it.

The reason my integrale can't be on the rollers is the drive to the rear is permanent, so with the rears in the rollers and the front on the ground, something will break - as proven by one owner.

My Alfa Q4 however - free diff in all axles and centre - so happy to sit in the rollers.

Mate was followed home with a garage lad driving his integrale (can't remember why) - lad decided to boot it . . . my watched it in the mirror veer off to the side and into the telegraph pole . . .

The reason my integrale can't be on the rollers is the drive to the rear is permanent, so with the rears in the rollers and the front on the ground, something will break - as proven by one owner.

My old Audi coupe quattro was the same, the guy would take it for a drive around the car park with the meter in the passenger footwell, and the handbook talked about not towing it with one end of the car lifted. I can't remember if it's the same on the TT, though if the MOT man hasn't been doing that, it doesn't seem to have done any harm.

Audi models with an electronic parking brake​

All Audi models fitted with an electronic parking brake (EPB) can be roller brake tested following the usual procedure in the MOT inspection manual regardless of whether the vehicle:

• is two-wheel drive (2WD)
• is four-wheel drive (4WD)

You should apply the EPB incrementally. It can take up to 4 operations of the switch to achieve maximum efforts.
