Got a MIG / TIG setup coming. I want to spend some time trying to learn MIG.
I'm going to try making a box for a mini trailer that I have (see https://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum...asy-trailer-box-sides-garden-use-only.114418/ ).
The trailer bed is made from 40x40x6mm angle section.
I think I'm going to buy 6 metres of 40x40x3mm angle (£30)
I was thinking of picking up some smaller box-section mild steel too. I am not actually sure but I think I may do the bottom frame of the trailer-box out of angle, upright sides/corners out of angle, and top frame out of box section. I do not really know what I am doing though so take that for what it is. It could all just come flopping down when I try to do it. I'm planning to use treated plywood as panels in the frame.
Box section mild steel is more expensive. I could go with 25mmx25mmx2mm, 6 metres for £28.80
Does that sound like a good amount of material to get started with? I will get a little extra so that I have plenty to practice on, since the frame perimeter is already 5 metres, and I haven't accounted for the upright corner sections either (4 angles, and maybe T section half way down the sides).
Are there any 'must have' shapes and sizes that I should probably pick up at the same time?
Should I perhaps go thinner so that this box weighs less? This trailer is to be pulled around our garden and field by a 'garden tractor' which is just a larger ride-on mower (Cadet 1224, 24hp hydrostatic)
