Morse Taper Adaptor

Hi,

Bought a nice American made Jacobs 2A 3/8 chuck. It came with a 2MT arbor but my lathe is 3MT. I know you can get sleeve adaptors but what I really want is a chuck arbor that has the main body 3MT and the chuck bit 2MT. I am new to this and I don't know the search terms to enter. Any help appreciated, cheers.

Search for a 2 to 3 Morse taper (Mt) adapter or sleeve. It's a standard bit of kit for a lathe that you will also need to use no 2 Mt drills. I cant help you where to look because you are in NZ but eBay might good a good place. Any of your Engineering suppliers should list something like this.

Edit: I for got to mention some of what you say doesn't make a lot of sense about 'chuck arbor that has main body 3mt and chuck bit 2 mt'... to use a 2 mt drill you use an adapter not a chuck. May be one of the guys here that has a home shop can take some pics for you to clarify, I cant as i'm not at my works today.

To clarify.

Parallel shank drills = drill chuck.
Mt drills = either straight in the machine tail stock or a Mt sleeve if required.

i have a no2 to no 3 morse taper adaptor I use in my lathe tailstock they work great only one problem . they extend out about 3inch longer so restrict your centre length. in a pillar drill it may not be a problem as u have a rise and fall table so possibly more distance available the other thing is theres more overhang from the bearing and on long larger drills u get more chatter

Do you want the chuck on a 3mt arbour? If so look for the correct 2a 3mt arbour
If you want to use mt2 drills then use a 2mt to 3mt adaptor sleeve.
I suspect you meant 2a instead of 2mt. They do exist. Try ebay or rdg ,chronos or rdg tools
