I`ve probably left this a bit late, i`ve been asked to go have a look over one of the above in the morning for someone. Being as you lot have a wide and varied knowledge, have any of you had experience with them. I`m looking for things like common rust/wear points, and any particular engine/gearbox troubles they may suffer from. Any help appreaciated, cheers, Jay

I'd concentrate on the body -- cars that old rot everywhere. The mechanical bits are relatively simple, fairly easy to get (unless it's a side valve, I guess) and cheap (or can be replaced by more modern stuff). Having said that, I know next to nothing about the bloody things!

Get the cill covers off (only a couple of self tappers) and have a good look. Most is easy to repair but gutters and rot around the windscreen can be time consuming.

Finally remember that there is always another one to look at. They're not exactly rare.

Jack the front wheels up and feel for play in the kingpin trunnions, they have a habit of popping out when worn.

sills/bulkhead/inner wings in fact almost anything made of metal on them
If its a woody, the wood is structural and expensive to sort out!
The aluminium nuts on the front suspension wear out and strip like rtb says but its not a expensive job to replace them, theyre sacraficial and usually its just the case of a new nut on the existing kingpin.
You can go mad and fit marina disc brakes, and all sorts of other stuff but the basic shell is what will take you time to get whipped into shape.
I had a van, I ended up doing heavy panel work on almost every panel on it, and sold it unfinished in the end after two years of work when I lost my then garage/lockup.

Both leaf spring mounting points are flaky, that's both ends and both sides.

rear spring mount as mentioned, front chassis legs drivers side rots more than passenger side, floorpan lift all carpets if the main carpets are glued down ask why sill coverplates need removing to check sills as previously mentioned these just unscrew. door pillars where hinge mounts,boot floor. do sweat rust too much as every panel is available ,almost every part is still available for these , if its a traveller check the woodwork costs about £300 a side to buy, also if the roof leaks betwix the cab and the read dont sweat it (traveller only) as these have a 2 part roof and just need resealing. also dont expect it to stop on a sixpence, and first has no syncromesh so will grind into first if yer above walking speed hth
