Hi all,
In the past when Ive had to weld thick sections (such as 20mm round bar) with my tiny stick welder, I have beveled the edges (so they are almost completely pointy) and then done a few passes to build up the weld until it is just over flush with the parent metal. This could be as much 6 passes or more on something like 20mm diameter bar) using a 90 amp stick. Obviously Ive removed slag in between passes.
This doesnt seem to be common place from what Ive seen in the forum (obviously its not ideal if you can help it), but is it acceptable if your welder is too small for its application and you dont currently have the means to get a larger one?
Also would this method be ok if I did two passes only if I ever had to weld thicker than 4-5mm using the 150 amp Clarke?
Cheers for any input guys!
PS, ordering a Clarke 160 off Weldequipe!
