Hi All,
Got some more gas and started again with practicing on thin sheet.
I am getting ready to do as good as possible 'patch' repair in the sills of my 93 XJ40. So far I am getting reasonable on 1mm sheet, flat is sort of easy but vertical is less so. Over head will be interesting.
My concern is, how thick is sill metal? should I be working on 0.7mm?
By the way, before I read the recommedations on automatic welding helmets from ebay, I bought one and got it today. The darkdown time is 1/10000's and I can tell you now, you see the flash!! not every time but if you are doing the thin sheet technique of spot spot spot, you see the blinding flash 50% of the time, I think a standard helmet would be better for this technique, or an 'proper' automatic one.
Thanks in advance
Graham
